IV Copa Presidente. Big success!

At an event that took place at Casa de Campo Marina during the 27th and 28th of February, the IV Presidente’s Cup was celebrated with the participation of more than 22 sailboats.

Once again sponsored by the CervecerĂa Nacional Dominicana with its brand Presidente, thus demonstrating its untiring support to the development of the sport in the Dominican Republic, and under the organization of Casa de Campo Yacht Club, this regatta officially became international due to the participation of three Spanish sailboats, which are the Acrobat, Selene III and Niob Sexto Cheyenne. This was possible thanks to the invitation from the Association of Sailboats of Oceanic Competition (ADVELCO, by its abbreviations in Spanish), after comprising in the Atlantic Grand Prix.
The Presidente’s Cup also counted on the sponsorship of Central Romana Corporation, Costa Sur Dominicana, Hotel Casa de Campo, Casa de Campo Yacht Club’s Sailing School, Santa Clara Water, ListĂn Diario, Casadecampo Living and Silgon. Is also remarkable the untiring work of the Dominican Sailboats Federation, who took charge of the technical direction by Mr. AndrĂ©s Santana, as well as the undisputable support of the ADVELCO with it’s president Architect HĂ©ctor Duval.
During this fourth version of the event a record was implanted with 22 boats divided in four categories, which raced a circuit of regattas around marked buoys in front of the Casa de Campo Marina and a final regatta around the Catalina Island.
The winner of the IV Presidente’s Cup was the sailboat Celtic X owned by JosĂ© Manuel RodrĂguez, representing the category “A” Racing. Other winners in the same category were the J24 Black Sheep by Joan RodrĂguez on the second place and the J24 Bombacha by Alberto Abreu on the third place. On the category “B” Spinnaker Cruising, the first place went to the Acrobat by Amador Magrave (Spain), the second place was taken by Ploter One from JosuĂ© MartĂ and the third to Niob Sexto Cheyenne from Alex Quer (Spain).
Regardin the category “C” Non-Spinnaker Cruising, the winner was the sailboat Cecile by Ramón Prieto, Shiraz by Héctor Duval on the second place and Elizabeth by Mario Ariza on the third place. Finally, on the category “D” Catamarans the first price was earned by the catamaran Cuco from Ernesto Armenteros and the second price to the Correcaminos from Nicolás Droulers.

It is important to also emphasize that in this regatta participated two teams that have been selected as national representatives in the XXI Centro American and Caribbean Olympics to take place from July 17th to August 1st 2010 in MayagĂĽez, Puerto Rico.
With this regatta is the demonstrated that the main objective of the Casa de Campo Marina and the Casa de Campo Yacht Club is to develop the sailing sport in the Dominican Republic, activity that will be crowned on April 21st to 24th with the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010, one of the most important sailboats regattas in the world, coming for the first time to Caribbean waters and were more than 25 boats manned by highly renowned athletes from the clubs of Australia, Italy, Denmark, Greece, United States, France, among other countries, will be participating.
